Saahas: Empowering Young Girls with Courage and Self-Reliance

Launched in 2013 by Gauri Sarin, Saahas focuses on empowering young girls, particularly from low socio-economic backgrounds, to build self-reliance, courage, and confidence. Through mentorship by women leaders, skill-building sessions, and activities fostering self-awareness and independence, Saahas enables girls to make bold, thoughtful life choices. The initiative primarily works with low-budget schools and colleges, aiming to create a community of empowered women role models who drive social change. Saahas envisions a future where confident, skilled women lead transformation in their communities with courage and purpose.

Sustainable Ecosystem: Jharsa Bandh, Gurgaon – A Healing Forest Walkway

The Jharsa Bandh Medicinal Food Forest in Gurgaon transforms a once encroached, waste-filled area into a thriving green space spanning 1.5 km. Supported by community groups like Uniboy Garden 2 and Malibu Town, this project boasts over 60 species of medicinal and fruit trees. It serves as a carbon sink, biodiversity hub, and source of natural remedies, promoting ecological restoration and community well-being.
Launched on July 9th, with District Commissioner Nishant Yadav as Guest of Honor, the initiative highlights Gurgaon’s potential for urban sustainability and inspires similar projects. Gauri Sarin’s leadership has been instrumental in driving this vision, fostering collaboration, and ensuring its success in creating vibrant, eco-friendly spaces for people and the planet.

Gurugram Jal Jagruti Abhiyan: Gauri Sarin’s Role in Addressing Waterlogging Challenges

Gauri Sarin, as convener of Making Model Gurugram, has played a pivotal role in leading the Gurugram Jal Jagruti Abhiyan, a movement focused on tackling the city’s chronic waterlogging and drainage issues. Recognizing that Gurugram’s flooding stems from outdated systems and encroachment on natural waterways, Gauri advocates for sustainable urban planning and revitalizing natural drainage channels. During the second phase of Gurugram Jal Jagruti, her efforts, alongside experts like Ramesh Goyal and municipal officials, identified systemic inefficiencies, including non-functional rainwater harvesting (RWH) pits.

Suryathon: Gurugram’s First-Ever Nasha Mukti Campaign with Youth and Sports at the Core

Suryathon, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at combating youth addiction, was a powerful community-driven event that united Gurugram in a collective stand against substance abuse. Organized by The Art of Living in partnership with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Suryathon went beyond a traditional marathon by integrating sports, music, and education to offer positive alternatives for a drug-free future.

Project: Farmers Market

The Farmers Market initiative, spearheaded by Gauri Sarin, aimed to connect organic farmers directly with urban consumers in Gurugram. In collaboration with Spencer’s supermarkets, Gauri hosted markets across 75 condominiums, reaching over 100,000 residents in just two winter seasons. This hyperlocal model successfully promoted traditional, chemical-free foods, supported small-scale food businesses, and reduced costs by cutting out middlemen. Key impacts included fostering trust between buyers and sellers, encouraging the growth of sustainable farming, and providing urban families with affordable, nutritious alternatives. Looking ahead, the initiative plans to expand and reach 250,000 people by 2025.

Project: The Birth of Bhumijaa

In 2017, Gauri Sarin launched Bhumijaa to empower women in agriculture and promote sustainable farming. With a vision to support India’s traditional food heritage, Bhumijaa connects agripreneurs and consumers through initiatives like the Agripreneurship Program, Bhumijaa Xchange, and Gaushala Project. These programs equip farmers with skills, provide direct market access, and promote ethical farming practices. Bhumijaa also focuses on preserving biodiversity through seed banks and agri-tourism. Collaborating with the government and raising consumer awareness, Gauri’s leadership is reshaping agripreneurship, fostering a healthier and more resilient agricultural landscape for India.

Voice of Citizen Survey

The Voice of Citizen Survey, conducted by Gauri Sarin as part of the Making Model Gurugram (MMG) initiative, gathered critical feedback from residents to address key issues in Gurugram. Presented at the March 2024 MMG Workshop, the survey identified concerns like waste management, financial transparency, and community welfare. The insights shaped collaborative discussions among Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and laid the groundwork for a united vision focused on sustainable solutions. This survey strengthens MMG’s mission to enhance community-led governance, empower RWAs, and foster active citizen participation in improving local living conditions.
